Rival 5QT Slow Cook Crock Pot

Rival SCRP500B-RIV gets too hot
I just got this crock pot and I'm concerned because it seems to be the same temperature no matter what setting is used. Using the WARM setting keeps the food way too hot.

Cooks too hot & handle just broke off
I received this as a Christmas gift 4 years ago. When I plugged it in and turned it on, it smelled strongly of burning plastic. Not a good sign when you plan to leave it alone in your home. I exchanged it for a new one and bought the 1 yr warranty.

I rarely ever used the thing except in the past 3 months. Now I use it at least once a week. The handle just broke off the lid the other day. I've only used it about 20 times. I can still use it, but it's kind of annoying to have to use a hot pad and a fork to open the lid. I know it lasted for a long time, but the plastic handle was a bad idea. Cheap construction.

Also, after reading the other reviews I realize why my food never turns out like I want it to. It's NOT a slow cooker. Like other reviewers said, water/broth boils on the lowest setting. I cooked a roast a couple weeks ago and it cooked too fast and it was tough. Sometimes I have to move things to a pot on the stove halfway through cooking. No, I'm not...

Food cooks too quickly
I love the look of this slow cooker;however, regardless of what was made, the food always came out over-cooked. I only used the low setting and even on warm the food boiled. I used the pot 5 times and despite what was made (chili, chicken, beef brisket) the food was over-cooked and often stuck to the bottom. Will be returning this one.
