This has two settings: high and higher
I'm disappointed with this slow cooker. The low setting rapidly boils everything, even when the slow cooker is full of food. The high setting is even higher. Recipes that call for eight hours of cooking time on low settings actually cook in 4-5 hours on low setting in this slow cooker. I'm not sure if I got a defective item, or if all are set to cook at high temperatures. I would not buy this product again.
Does the job, despite handle breaking off
I would recommend this product. My only complaint is that the handle broke off. However, I can still USE the thing so that's what counts.
Cooks way too hot
I agree completely with the other 1-star reviewer! "This has two settings: high and higher." I bought this slow cooker about two years ago, and it was one of the biggest kitchen equipment disappointments of my life. It overcooked *everything*, despite following directions to a tee and filling it at least 2/3 full.
Thus began my two-year process of researching these things, only to learn that the newer machines have been re-calibrated to cook much hotter than, say, the ones in the '70s. I'm new to slow cooking and never used those machines. But I've been through 3 awful machines at this point, and it's been maddening having to read reviews of "fantastic!" recipes that "turned out perfectly!" when I was ruining these same recipes in faulty machines that were calibrated entirely differently than other people's.
In short, this is definitely one that cooks too hot. The low setting will boil soon and rapidly, and you will most likely ruin meals. I've now been through...
