Great concept, poor execution
We bought this ball ice cream maker to take on camping trips with the kids. We experimented with it today at the house - with amazingly poor results....
I am an engineer, and understand thermodynamics, and the inital issue is that there is too small a freezing capacity - it simply won't work without constant changing of ice/water.
Then, it is advertised with kids, and sold as a fun family adventure - however, within 13 minutes of rolling it around - the kids cracked the case.
They then became bored rolling the wet ball around - we now have the ice cream slurry freezing in a pan in the freezer to make ice cubes :)
We were never successfull at making ice cream in this product, and are going back to a traditional ice cream maker with a DC option for camping trips.
Issues: 1) poor design, needs another 2" diameter to even have a chance at freezing in our lifetime, 2) poor construction - brittle plastic should not be used in this...
