Oster Designer Large Capacity Food Steamer & Rice Cooker

Love this Steamer!
I already had a steamer like this and I gave it away. WHen I saw all the other kinds of models out there I did not like them. This is a wonderful steamer! Steams evenly.

Good long-lasting plastic product, hard to clean
Our steamer finally clunked on us after 12 years. We received one in 2000 as a wedding gift. It died in 2012. One of the plastic trays began cracking in 2011.

Pros:
Steams well: We made chicken breasts, crab legs, rice, veggies

Negatives:
Food is sitting on plastic
Extremely hard to clean the plastic drip trays. We used this to steam meat for our dog. The fat dripping would clog up the holes. I had to use a scrub brush then put the bowl in the dishwasher for final cleaning.

Otherwise, it lasted a long time and held a good amount of food.

The good and the bad
This product arrived in original box which had obviously been opened and resealed with packing tape. This purchase was to replace the same Oster Designer Large Capacity Food Steamer and Rice Cooker we have been using for many years. We inspected all the parts and determined the small crack on the main unit was insignificant. However, after using - there was water all over my counter. The insignificant crack allowed water to flow out of the bottom of the unit. Amazon refunded a portion of the purchase price. We are using my original steam cooking unit with all the new plastic containers and lids. This product allows for a great quantity of different foods to be steamed at the same time. Large ears of corn, tons of asparagas, full bags of spinach can be done at one time. Highly recommend the product. Just make sure it isn't defective upon arrival.
